Fortune Sacco FC head coach Sylvester Odero says he will treat the remaining two matches in the National Super League (NSL) as finals, as he eyes a top-three finish in the 2024/25 season.

Currently sitting third in the standings with 57 points from 33 matches, Fortune Sacco is firmly in the promotion race. Their recent win over 3K FC from Embu County significantly boosted their chances of securing a spot in the promotion play-offs.

A victory in their upcoming clash against fourth-placed Darajani Gogo on Saturday at General Kassam Stadium in Kirinyaga could narrow the gap between them and second-placed APS Bomet to just a point.

With one more match to go, an away fixture against eighth-placed Kisumu AllStars, Odero is confident that his charges can secure a top-three finish. He believes that a win over Gogo would effectively extinguish their rivals' hopes of breaking into the top three.

"Beating Gogo shall have put us in a pole position of finishing third now that we shall have reduced their momentum. We are targeting maximum points on Saturday. The boys are motivated, and should we win, finishing in the top three will be within our reach," said Odero.

"According to the position we are on the table standings, we are approaching each game as a final. God has blessed us with a position whereby the ball is on our court and we stand a chance of finishing third and playing in the promotion play-off," he added.

Odero, a CAF B license holder, took charge of the team in April 2025 following the resignation of Michael Etimong in March. Etimong exited after a poor run that saw him win only two of his last 10 games, drawing four and losing four.

Since Odero's appointment, Fortune Sacco is unbeaten in ten matches, registering eight wins and two draws, and the coach is determined to carry that momentum through the final stretch of the season.

"I came in when the team was doing poorly, and there is nothing much I have done. I just came and changed the mentality of the players, and I reminded them how they missed out on joining the Premier League in the 2020/21 season that was declared null and void by the Federation," he recalled.

"I told them this is another chance of making it happen. They believed, and here we are, the river is flowing and we are moving towards ensuring we achieve this dream." He told Citizen Digital.

A teacher by profession, Odero also made an emotional appeal to the fans to come out in large numbers and support the team at this crucial stage.

"We are having a 'final' on Saturday, and to our fans, we will be playing at home at General Kassam Stadium. Come early and in big numbers. You push the team like you have been doing since I joined. The twelfth man will be required to ensure the team's spirits are elevated and we get the maximum points," he urged.

Meanwhile, fifth-placed Naivas FC (56 points) will be at home to Embu’s 3K FC, while sixth-placed Kibera Black Stars (52 points), still hopeful of a late promotion push, will be looking to build on their 3-1 win over Sam West Black Boots when they host Kisumu All-Stars on Saturday. They previously suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to Nzoia United.
