Why Rwandan defender Bayisenge wants to renew his Gor contract
Rwandese and Gor Mahia defender Emery Bayisenge says he will renew his contract with the Kenyan Premier League champions despite limited game-time in the just ended season.
The right-back was mainly used as an understudy to captain
Philemon Otieno in the ended campaign but says he's comfortable at the club.
“I have a job at Gor Mahia and I am happy. Gor is a
great team in the region and I don’t plan to leave any sooner,’’ said Emery.
The Rwandan international who has a year left on his
contract was instrumental in sealing the title on the final day, featuring
prominently in the 4-1 win after being sidelined for long over what the
technical bench says was caused by injury.
The experienced defender has previously featured for
APR of Rwanda in the CAF Champions League as well as for his national football
team in the the CECAFA tournaments.
Bayisenge has at
the same time hailed the ‘quality’ of the Kenyan Premier League saying it’s a
step higher than his native Rwandan league.
“In Kenya, every team in the league is a threat. You
don’t just approach a match with the surety of winning. There is quality in
Kenya as compared to Rwanda.’’
The right-back is among the foreign nationals signed
by Gor mid last season and he is happy with the achievement having been part of
the squad that played on the last match day which helped the club lift its 20th
title.
Before joining Gor Mahia in March 2023, Bayisenge was a free agent since January after Saif Sporting Club of Bangladesh released him among other players following financial constraints by the club.
“I have
featured in the CAF Champions League before with APR of Rwanda and I am happy I’m
headed to the continental arena again, now with Gor Mahia.’’
Other than Gor and Rwandese side ARP FC, he has also
turned out for USM Alger of Algeria and JJ Massira of Morocco.
