Kenya Sevens superstar Kevin Wekesa believes the team can only get better with time after finishing 7th in the just concluded Cape Town 7s in South Africa.

Wekesa who touched down twice for the Kevin Wambua-led side says the blend of youth and experienced heads is working perfectly for the team.

Having seen an improvement by three slots from the opening leg of the season in Dubai 7s where they finished 10th, Wekesa is confident of even better shows going forward.

“The mix of young players and a few experienced players is really good for us. The young players are stepping up and learning day by day and I believe as we go further in the series, they will gain more experience to help the team. We will keep improving,” observed Wekesa.

Shujaa whitewashed Great Britain 32-17 to finish 7th, three places better than they did in the opening leg in Dubai and Wekesa believes the team had a good outing in Cape town.

Shujaa started well in their opening match edging Australia 19-17 but fell 14-7 to Spain in their final group stage match.

They put in a gallant effort in their fifth place semi-final against Argentina but fell short, losing 26-14 and were relegated to the seventh place final.

The series takes a break until the end of January 2025 when they head to Perth, Australia for the third leg of the season.

Shujaa are hoping to finish in the top eight places to avoid relegation after gaining promotion back to the ivy after a season out in the cold.
