Wawira gets nod for Paralympics
Powerlifter Hellen Wawira Kariuki is the latest Kenyan to punch a ticket to the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
The athlete is a beneficiary of the bipartite commission invitation for the Tokyo Paralympics, and now she will link up with team Kenya at their bubble camp at the Utalii Hotel in Nairobi.
Wawira makes history as being the first lady powerlifter to represent the country in the Paralympic Games. She was once ranked 2nd in the world in her 41kg category.
As the team prepares to head to Tokyo, Wawira promises not to disappoint in her event. She will be the 1st athlete to participate in the Tokyo Paralympics, her event being slated for 26th August 202.
In the meantime, Asiya Mohammed who too has made history for being the first lady pararower to the games,has embarked on her training in Mombasa at the Tudor Water sports under coach Kendagor. Asiya isone of Kenya’s medal prospects.
The Athletics team continues with their daily training in Karuraand Ngong in the morning and at Kasarani stadium in the afternoon.
