Wasike hoping to make it six wins in a row in Pro Boxing

Kenya’s cruiserweight boxing sensation, Joshua Wasike, 32, is eyeing his sixth consecutive win as a professional boxer, a feat he hopes to achieve later this month in Mauritius.

With an impressive start in the pro boxing scene, Wasike’s rise is drawing attention as he showcases his power and skills on an international platform.

Before turning professional in 2023, Joshua had a distinguished amateur career, representing Kenya for five years with the national boxing team, the Hit Squad.

Reflecting on his journey, Wasike shared his motivations for making the switch: “I wanted to experience professional boxing after spending five years in amateur boxing with the Hit Squad.

“Honestly, I didn’t see much benefit in staying amateur because I constantly struggled with the back-and-forth demands of the national team. That’s when I decided to turn professional.”

Since joining the pro ranks, Wasike has put together an impressive record of five victories, including four knockouts and one unanimous decision, underscoring his power and tenacity in the ring.

“In professional boxing, the preparation is very different,” he noted. “It involves a rigorous two- to three-month training period for each upcoming fight. I can confidently say that pro boxing is well-structured, and I appreciate the focus it allows me to put on my training and strategy.”

As Wasike gears up for his next match, he is enthusiastic about the prospects of maintaining his winning streak.

His upcoming fight is tentatively scheduled for November 20 or 22 in Mauritius against an opponent that is yet to be confirmed, and he hopes to add another victory to his growing list of accomplishments.

The journey has been rewarding for Wasike, who believes that his professional boxing career will bring him the recognition and opportunities he sought while competing as an amateur.

Wasike’s ambition and dedication are evident, and his record speaks to the hard work he has invested in this new chapter.

“I’ve already won five fights, four by knockout, and one by points decision,” he said proudly.

“Now, my goal is to keep pushing forward, taking on tougher opponents, and representing Kenya in the international boxing arena.”

With his sixth fight on the horizon, Wasike’s journey is a testament to his resilience and passion for boxing.
