Wambua tips Shujaa for a top eight finish at Perth 7s
The Kenya 7s head coach, Kevin Wambua,
will bank on a blend of youth and experience in his stable to excel at the Perth 7s
that will take place from January 24-26, 2025, at HBF Park, Perth,
Australia.
Banking on the return of the
seasoned duo of Brian Tanga and Vincent Onyala to the national setup, Wambua
hopes for experience and control for his side as they prepare for a stern
face-off against rugby royalties in Fiji, New Zealand, and Uruguay, whom they
have been pooled with in Pool C.
"I believe we're in a good
space, and we've sat down as a team and seen the process that we're using is
really working, and that's what we're going to stick with."
"We're kind of happy getting a boost from Onyala back in the squad, Tony with us, and having Tanga back in, and this
will be vital to us."
Flagged by his co-captains, George
Ooro and Samuel Asati, coach Wambua knows it won't be easy to beat his pool but
knows the boys have what it takes to compete at that level and deliver a
top-eight seed.
The 36-year-old coach, whose side
had a week-long camp in Nakuru, dismissed claims of fatigue and jet lag even
though he acknowledged the five-hour time difference en route to
Perth.
Captains Ooro and Asati relish the
chance to play against the "big boys" and know that they will have to
play on both sides of the ball if they want to get the best out of each
other.
Wambua will be out to play with pace
and accuracy to get the better of their highly ranked opponents.
