Chavakali High School rugby coach Brian Walumbe is confident his charges will bring back the lost glory in this year's Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) as the zonal games kicked off at Chavakali High School, Vihiga County at the weekend.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after witnessing his side thrash Mbale High School 35-0 in the Chavakali Zonal Games held at Chavakali High School, Walumbe said his team still faces significant fitness challenges which they must address

"Our boys are still struggling with fitness," Walumbe remarked. "They started slowly but the momentum grew with time."

Walumbe at the same time acknowledged the team's ability to build momentum as their game progressed signifying a positive trend in their performance dynamics.

He was however quick to point out that there are specific areas requiring attention and improvement.

"The boys know the target we have this season, which is to go all the way and win the national title,” he noted. "We have narrowed down on departments that we need to better before our sub-county games," Walumbe added.

The 2024 rugby class will be hoping to revive Chavakali's lost glory. The former rugby 7s giants have not graced the national competitions since 2018.

The 2024 KSSSA term two games will proceed to the sub-county level next weekend.
