Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) defending champions Vihiga Queens and newcomers Kibera Soccer Ladies are gearing up with intensified training, poised to make a thrilling comeback in the league following the festive break.

Kibera Ladies will honour an away match against Madira Soccer Assasins at Mamboleo Stadium as Vihiga Queens welcomr Wadadia at Moi Stadium.

According to Vihiga Queens coach, Benson Nyamunyamu, their performance at the beginning of the season was good.

His counterpart David Vijago of Kibera Soccer Ladies states that they posted average results as newcomers; out of the nine matches played, Kibera Soccer Ladies lost two while Vihiga won six.

Both teams are eyeing victories being their first leg-closing matches.

“We are putting in a lot of efforts to ensure we do better. Assassins are a good team, and we must acknowledge they lowered our pride during our last match in the Division 1 league, “ said Vijago.

Queens’ boss has called on the ladies to shift focus from the festive mood and give the best results.

“Today we met with the ladies and have advised them to now show their ability on Sunday as we eye victory in the match. The merry making season is now over and are back to business," Nyamunyamu.

According to the coaches, they will be working on building resilient teams. Queens seek to maintain a winning streak in the season, and Kibera aim to be the surprise winners in the KWPL as newcomers.

“Although we have not lost any matches, we have lost some striking chances, and this is something we really have to improve on. It must also be a test of the defense and goalkeeping. Sometimes we have conceded goals that took the technical bench by surprise,” said NyamuNyamu.

“At first, our players were not bold enough since we selected the team from Division One and academies. As of now, they are slowly bonding with the league, and what we need to do is motivate them.”

Queens have shifted their matches to Kisumu due to the overwhelming number of fans turnout.
