Four-time FKF Women's Premier League champions Vihiga Queens are aiming for a place in the FKF Women’s Cup quarter-finals as they prepare to face Iron Ladies this weekend.

Vihiga advanced to the Round of 16 after edging out Gene Queens 8-7 on penalties in the Round of 32. Their opponents, Iron Ladies, booked their spot with a 2-1 win over Kisiwa Starlets.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Vihiga Queens CEO Michael Ogada Senelwa expressed confidence in his team’s readiness and their desire to win the cup for the first time.

“First, I want to congratulate the Football Kenya Federation for organising this tournament and securing a sponsor. It's encouraging to see teams benefiting from the competition, which wasn't the case before. I hope more partners will come on board to make the cup even more exciting,” said Senelwa.

“Our girls are well-prepared to face Iron Ladies. Even though they play in a lower league, we will give them the respect they deserve. This tournament also gives FKF WPL teams a great opportunity to scout talent from lower-division sides.”

Senelwa acknowledged that their dream of winning the Premier League this season is over, and the team is now fully focused on lifting the FKF Cup.

Vihiga currently sit fourth on the league table with 38 points, the same as third-placed Kibera. Kenya Police Bullets lead with 43 points, followed by Ulinzi Starlets on 41.

“Our goal was to win the Premier League, but mathematically that’s now out of reach — only the top three are still in contention. We’ll regroup and fight next season. For now, I encourage my girls to stay focused and keep working hard. I believe things will continue improving under the current FKF leadership, as we’ve seen in this tournament.”

Ulinzi Starlets have dominated the FKF Women’s Cup in recent years, winning three consecutive titles. Their latest triumph came in the 2024 final, where they beat Kibera Soccer Ladies 2-1 at Police Sacco Stadium, thanks to goals from Sheryl Angachi and Linda Kihara.
