Vihiga Queens boss Senelwa has eyes on KWPL title
Vihiga Queens Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Ogada Senelwa believes they have what it takes
to restore their lost glory by clinching the FKF Women's Premier League this
season.
The four-time
champions lost their supremacy to the new champions Kenya Police Bullets last
season who won it with 49 points as the Kidundu-based side finished second with
41 similar to third-placed Ulinzi Starlets.
After four rounds, Vihiga
are on top of the table with 10 points, one above newbies Trinity Starlets who
are second as Kenya Police Bullets sits third with seven points.
Bungoma Queens and
Kibera Soccer Women wrap up the top five with six points each in that order.
Speaking to Citizen
Digital, Senelwa who is also vying for the post of Chairperson for Vihiga
County in the coming Football Kenya Federation branches elections said the
girls are at their best as he warned the opponents to expect fireworks.
“We kicked off the
season well and that’s why we are on the top of the table. We had proper
preparations before the season which helped us a lot.
“We aim to
restore the lost glory by winning the title.
“We want to maintain
our leadership by mid-season then go ahead and win it something I believe we
can achieve easily if we maintain the focus.”
Senelwa however
hailed the new signings saying they have jelled well with the rest and he
expects a lot from them.
“They have fast
adapted our style of play and I hope that they will continue with the
same momentum going forward as we look to achieve our dream of winning the
league.
“I’m so much
impressed by the little girl Yvone Musyoka, from four girls at Kibubi Girls
High School which is our filler.
“The girl has been
playing for 90 minutes since joining the team and her performance has been
improving day by day.
“We will miss her
services this time she will be sitting for her National Examination (KCSE) but
we have the best substitution for the time being.
“I’m congratulating
all my players and ensuring them full support from the team, hoping that
they will not let us down.”
The CEO also
revealed plans to beef up the squad come mid-season, a feat that will be worked
on by the technical bench led by head coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh.
