USIU out to stop Strathmore’s unbeaten run
United States International University (USIU) head coach John
Kabu is confident his side will put a stop to their varsity rivals Strathmore
University’s unbeaten run when they meet tomorrow at City Park.
USIU lost the reverse fixture 2-1 at the same venue during
the first leg and since then Strathmore have gone on to consolidate their
position on top of the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women premier league.
Kabu says they have been working on mental strength and he
believes they are ready for their opponents.
“During our first leg, defensive lapses forced us to concede
two goals. We have been working on mental strength, our defense and the goalkeeping
department. I believe we shall have a different approach tomorrow,” Kabu said.
USIU have not registered any win in their past four matches,
having drawn twice and lost a similar number of games.
With three matches to go, his counterpart Meshack Senge says
he is taking every game at a time.
“I can’t underestimate my opponent. Neither will we relax for
being on the table summit. We take each game at a time. I have young and new
players to the league, so it's unpredictable but we are well prepared,” said
Senge.
A win for Strathmore will hand them the championship with two
games to spare.
Elsewhere in Kisumu, Lakers will be ending their league
season with a double busy weekend when they host Blazers and DFG Wolverines on
Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Early May, the Kisumu based side had overwhelmed flower girls
Wolverines 3-0, before sharing all-one spoils with Blazers in September.
Lakers are second on log with 17 points, a point and 10
points clear ahead of Blazers and Wolverines who are sitting third and fifth
respectively.
