Nairobi
University basketball team, UON Terror, head coach Eugene Genga has pointed out
lack of consistency as the major reason they lost their weekend clash against
Umoja.
The students lost
64-75 in the Kenya National Men’s Premier League match played at Nyayo
Gymnasium.
“It
was a very disappointing loss, we started well but lost the plot in the third
quarter, that the challenge of coaching young people at certain point they get
carried away.
“Some
mistakes can turn the outcome of the game but overall we played better apart
from the third quarter and part of the fourth quarter,” Kalman said.
Genga
has also cited unforeseen inconveniences that rattled their stability ahead of
the as significant for their loss.
“We
were able to contain most of their players but we had not factored in Olang who
had seven three- pointers who got us off-guard, we never thought he would shoot
that well which was the major difference in that game.
“But
we did a good job from Bosire to Ocampo to Ramazan but also our defensive
rotation had lapses,” Kalmam said.
The
soft-spoken tactician says they will go back to the drawing board as they
prepare for upcoming varsity derbies.
“We
will go back to the drawing board again, work on our transitions defense,
transition offense, transition awareness and our discipline.
“We
have two winnable games in the first leg; against USIU Tigers and Strathmore
Blades; they will be campus derby and can go either way but we hope to play
well and get the victories,” Kalman added.
Terror
currently have 11 points after playing nine games, winning two and losing
seven while Umoja have 13 points after playing eight games, winning five and
losing three.
Defending
champions, Nairobi City Thunder tops the league with 20 points after playing
ten games, winning all and are closely followed by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)
who have played ten games, won eight and lost two with 18 points.
