Ulinzi Warriors captain Eric Mutoro has backed Nairobi City Thunder to shine at the upcoming Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament that tips off Thursday, November 28 to December 3, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena and the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium.

Mutoro says the quality of players and the structural organization of Thunder gives them an opportunity to go against the best in Africa.

“They have some very good players with a lot of quality and also a great technical bench to deliver good results against the best in Africa.  I believe they will go far in the tournament and make Kenyans proud,” said Mutoro.

Thunder will launch their campaign tomorrow at 8 pm against MBB from South Africa in a pool that also has Kriol Star and Brave Hearts.

The other pool has Matero Magic, City Oilers, Fox Sports, and Urunani. According to Mutoro, this tournament will offer proper exposure to the local players and, at the same time, help to build infrastructure in the country.

“Hosting this Elite tournament will give basketball players a good exposure to those participating in it and also those who will be following the game plus the renovation of the facilities ahead of the competition will be a good thing for the upcoming matches.”

“That will be a big motivation to the player and the technical bench. They will work hard and give their best to make sure that they are in the money bracket which is a good thing for the game,” he added.

The winner of the tournament will walk away with 13 million Kenya shillings, the runners-up get 9.8 million, the third-place finisher will receive 7.2 million, and the fourth-place finisher will go home with 3.3 million.

The Laiser Hill Academy basketball coach says this will go a long way in motivating the players to work harder.
