Ulinzi Warriors coach Mufutu credits team work for weekend league match win

Ulinzi Warriors head coach Benard Mufutu has attributed their weekend win against Eldonets Platinum to team work.

The soldiers defeated the home side 62-26 at Uasin Gishu grounds in Eldoret over the weekend in the Kenya National Men’s Basketball Premier League match.

“It was a good outing and I think what worked for us was playing good defence, coordination was better in terms of team chemistry, we moved the ball well and our execution was better than some of the games we have played,” Mufutu said.

At the same time the head coach has promised to maintain the momentum even as they work on their weaknesses.

“We will continue working on that aspect of the game, especially the defensive beat. We are still making a lot of turnovers which is a great concern but if we improve on that, score free throws I believe we will play better games than the one we played in Eldoret,” Mufutu added.

Ulinzi have so far played nine matches, winning five and losing four and so far have 14 points with two games to go in the first leg.

In their weekend match against Eldonets, Ulinzi dominated all the quarters starting with a 10-02 win in the first quarter before registering a 20-06 victory in the second quarter going to half time with a 30-08 lead.

After the break the soldiers maintained their tempo winning 15-08 in the third quarter before finalizing their victory with a 17-10 in the last quarter to take home the maximum points.

Brans Nzioka was their shining star as he dropped 12 points as Derrick Ochieng added 11.

In another match played at Nyayo Gymnasium in the women’s premier league, Strathmore Swords defeated The Swish 44-33.

Despite the victory the head coach Ronnie Owino was not impressed with the team’s performance.

“We did not play well, we missed easy baskets under the rim, we also missed free throws. Our defence wasn't that good but we will work to improve.
