Kenya Women Premier League side Ulinzi Starlets Wednesday continued their winning streak with a 2-0 win over Bunyore Starlets in a scintillating match played at Mumboha Sports Ground.

Ulinzi scored in the second minute of the game through a corner kick which Tabitha Amoit hung past Bunyore Starlets defenders heading the ball in the net.

Bunyore Starlets fought back to no avail as the first half ended with visitors on the lead.

A handful fans who hang on trees along the fence of Mumboha ground, some seated in the stands held their chins in disbelief as Joy Kinglady shot from outside the box and got the ball behind Bunyore’s keeper Yvone Musungu sealing Ulinzi Starlets first ever premier league victory against Bunyore Starlets at Mumboha Grounds.

As Bunyore Starlets proceed to the Christmas break at the bottom of the KWPL table with six points, Ulinzi Starlets who have so far won four games drawing five losing one, are hopeful that they can give their opponents a run for their money this season.

“These players are technically good. What we are doing is to maintain that and show the players they are winners,” said Collins Ochieng, Ulinzi Starlets head coach.

Asked why his team failed to rain goals against Bunyore, Ochieng said the 5-0 win against Wadadia was because Ulinzi played host and so the strategy employed at home and away changed although they scooped maximum points again.

“How we plan for a game varies based on whether we are at home or away. We are going to take every game as a final and all other things will fall in place,” Ocheng stated.

In a rejoinder, Solomon Masika who has replaced Nick Aketch as Bunyore Starlets coach praised his charges despite the loss.

“We played an experienced side. Most of my players are underdogs in the Kenya Women Premier League hence Ulinzi narrowly winning the game is testament that Bunyore Starlets are headed in the right direction,” Masika said as he announced that he had broken the camp for Christmas holidays.

“The team lacked depth hence injuries easily distracted our winning game plan. We are going to the holidays on a low note but we promise to impress next year.
