Two-star Bidco ends Bandari's unbeaten run in Ukunda
Bidco United FC ended Bandari FC’s unbeaten streak in the Kenyan
Premier League (FKF-PL) this season with a 2-0 win at the Ukunda showground,
Kwale County on Sunday.
Goals from defender Marvin Amuka and striker Clinton Asiago
gave the visitors the deserved win, silencing the enthusiastic fans - who came
buoyed by last week’s resounding victory over champions Gor Mahia at the same
venue.
Bidco United’s Head Coach Anthony Akhulia praised his side for the
win, saying they stuck to the plan they had put in place for their inform
opponents.
"We had in mind that we were coming to play against an
unbeaten side and if were to lose, it would have cost us a lot considering how
we have been fairing since the start of the season. I’m glad our strategy
worked, as played our hearts out for the win," said the Kenya Under-20 Assistant
Coach.
A clearly disappointed Head Coach Ken Odhiambo blamed his side
for being saying they appeared to have rested on their laurels.
"I want to quickly forget about this match, we can't even
analyse. Everything just went wrong. We gave them two easy goals. It's high
time my players showed character," said the Harambee Stars Assistant
Coach.
Bidco United’s goalkeeper Daniel Odiwour made a glorious save at
the quarter-hour mark after Captain Nahimana Shassiri coolly connected William
Wadri’s cross.
The Oilers made their first attempt in the 25th minute, when fullback
Jacob Onyango delivered a fine cross-cum-shot but goalkeeper James Omusinde
comfortably saved it.
A minute later, Asiago looped a ball over Omusinde but flew
inches over the bar.
Just four minutes to end of the first half, Marvin Amuka gave
Bidco the lead after connecting Peter Nzuki’s freekick, with goalkeeper
Omusinde mishandling the ball as it crossed the goal line.
At the stroke of the first half, Asiogo doubled Bidco lead after
collecting a blind pass from Bandari’s Edward Satulo, a score that would stand
to fulltime.
In the second half, Bandari were forced to ring changes,
introducing former Gor Mahia winger James Macharia, Mohammed Abdulrahman and
youngster Izzadin Juma.
Beja Nyamawi almost gave the hosts a consolation in the 72nd
minute, but his close effort was punched out for a corner by goalkeeper
Odiwour.
The Dockers were unable to get a breakthrough despite spirited efforts in the last quarter of the game, as Bidco resulted to a defensive approach to seal the win.
