Tusker FC Head Coach Charles Okere has dismissed Kenyan Premier League title talk, saying it is too early to go into conclusions.

This is after the Brewers edged reigning champions Gor Mahia 2-1 in a nail-biting clash staged at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday, with the coach insisting on taking a game at a time.

Okere has however heaped praise on his charges for topping the league after the first half of the season.

“It is too early to talk about the title race, yes, we lead the table but we are just half way through. Our main focus is just preparing for the next game and taking each game at a time.”

“I’m proud of the shift my boys have put in so far. We kicked off the league on a wrong footing but we’ve slowly gained momentum. The new boys have already mastered our playing style and that’s an advantage to me,” added Okere.

Okere’s boys stunned Gor Mahia for the first time in the last two years thanks to Ryan Ogam’s last gap goal.

The 20-year-old had broken the deadlock in 50th minute, sending Tusker’s fans into wild celebrations, However Austin Odhiambo cancelled the hosts’ lead 20 minutes later with a superb free-kick from 25-yards.

And, with the match heading for a draw, Tusker were awarded a free-kick at the death.

Dennis Wanjala, the dead ball specialist for the 2022 Premier League champions, sent a perfect cross in the box with Ogam rising high to smash the ball into the net, his 15th goal of the season.

The win took Tusker's tally to 33 points at the apex of the league, three ahead of Kenya Police FC and nine ahead of K’Ogalo.

Okere is now aiming at solidifying his defence, ahead of the second half of the season, as they seek to reclaim the title they relinquished in 2023.

“We still have to work on our defence because we have been conceding a lot of goals. It is a collective responsibility, you can’t concede a lot and expect to win the title,” Okere averred.

Tusker will travel to Ulinzi for their next match as they aim to continue with the winning streak.
