Tusker, Police clash in FKF-PL battle of summit

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has expressed confidence in his team's progress as they prepare for a crunch FKF Premier League top-of-the-table clash against leaders Kenya Police FC in Machakos on Saturday.

The two high flying teams hope the pendulum swings to each side’s favour in the blockbuster with Police leading the standings on 37 points, level with Tusker but the law enforcers boast a superior goal difference.

Police were held to a one-all draw by Sofapaka in Saturday’s lunch time match at Kenyatta Stadium and Tusker needed to pick maximum points to regain the league’s top spot but faltered with a goalless draw against KCB later that day in the same venue.

The two sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture on September 29 but Tusker boast three wins over Police in their last six meetings.

“Every game is tough, and playing against Kenya Police FC is no different. We need to remain calm, stick to our plan, and handle the pressure well. We expect a positive match,” stated Okere.

‎‎The tactician credited the teams management for a solid preseason, which he believes has played a key role in their performance so far.

‎‎“For any team to perform well, you need a good preseason. We thank the management for their support. We are continuing with the same culture and philosophy, and working as a team has been crucial in our progress.”

‎‎Despite Police FC boasting a better defensive record, having conceded fewer goals than Tusker, Okere remains optimistic about improving his squad’s balance.

‎‎"You improve with every game. In the second leg, we must score more goals and defend better," he noted.

‎‎On the competitive title race involving Tusker, Kenya Police FC, and defending champions Gor Mahia, Okere urged his squad to remain focused.

‎‎"The big question is whether we are on the right track. Staying focused until the last game will be key for us," he emphasized.

‎‎Although the team has suffered a few minor injuries, Okere assured that they are manageable, crediting the medical team for their efforts.

‎‎"A win on Saturday will take us to the top of the table, and that is a huge motivation. Every game in this second leg is crucial," he added.

The league top scorer Ryan Ogam, who has been in stellar form with 15 goals this season under his belt, is eager to maintain his scoring streak for the Brewers.

‎‎"This is a very important match for us, and we need to approach it like any other game. There is positive energy in the squad, and we trust God for a win," said Ogam.

‎‎Revealing the secret behind his goal-scoring success, he emphasized hard work and motivation from both coaches and teammates.

‎‎"There is no shortcut in football. Hard work and motivation from the coach and teammates have really helped me."

‎‎Initially setting a target of 10 goals before midseason, Ogam has surpassed expectations and now aims to hit between 25 and 30 goals by the end of the campaign.

‎‎‎The prolific striker also addressed speculation linking him with a move to Algerian side USM Alger, confirming that the club had activated his release clause in January.

‎‎"Yes, it was true. They approached me, but my parents and Tusker FC were involved in the decision. For now, I am a Tusker player, and my focus is on helping the team reach its goals this season. Opportunities will come, but there are people involved in making such decisions," he clarified.
