Tusker getting started despite opening day win, warns Okere
Tusker
head coach Charles Okere has cited six weeks of pre-season planning for their hard-fought
1-0 win against Sofapaka in their FKF-PL opening match over the weekend.
The
Brewers had to endure a 60 minutes-long stalemate before Chrispine Erambo found
the target to silence their former tactician Robert Matano’s side.
Okere
says the proper plans had them in shape to face Sofapana, a side he describes
as stubborn.
“I would like to say thank you to the Almighty God for the three
points and it has been an intense six weeks of pre-season planning.
We have new players in the team and we have also been working on
and so I believe that the boys have done their part.
Sofapaka is a very strong side that needs one to approach the
game cautiously”, said Okere.
Okere
has also acknowledged how swiftly his players have adjusted to his philosophy,
although he is confident they are just getting started.
Okere who was elevated to the ranks of an interim head coach
after filling the vacant position left by Robert Matano, acknowledges how swift
his players have adjusted into his philosophy although there is room for
improvement on some aspects.
“The game was about pressure after pressure but at the end of
the day we contained them”, voiced Okere.
Tusker are fourth on the log behind leaders AFC Leopards who
drubbed Mathare United 4-0 on the opening day, Mara Sugar and Murang’a SEAL with
all of them on three points.
They will have to work harder to finish a step higher than last
season where they came second behind K’Ogalo and with the 12-time champions AFC
Leopards already showing the intent of lifting the title this season, thrashing
Mathare United 4-0 in their opener.
