Charles Okere has top spot in FKF Premier League in his sights when his side and joint-leaders Tusker take on Gor Mahia on Sunday in a six-pointer clash at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Tusker are second in the league standings on 38 points, level with Police FC who boast a superior goal difference as an intriguing FKF PL title battle hots up.
But this weekend's fixtures could have a big say in the destination of the title as Gor Mahia trail the two league leaders in third place on 34 points with a game in hand.
Police and Tusker have let Gor creep up on them with consecutives draws that also saw the two sides go flat in their 0-0 draw in a top of the table clash last weekend.
That was a second draw for the two leaders in as many matches after Police were held to a 1-1 draw by Sofapaka on February 2 while the Brewers fired blanks in a 0-0 draw against KCB in that weekend, as Gor registered identical 2-1 wins over Posta Rangers and Mathare United.
The two back to back wins have put Gor Mahia right on Police and Tusker heels, and Okere wants his blunt striking force to step up if they are to return to winning ways.
Despite boasting the most goals this season (31) the Brewers have struggled in front of goal lately, failing to score in their last two matches.
“We must find our edge. Scoring goals and not conceding is the only secret. Since our backline is solid, we need to convert more chances up front.”
Okere added that he hoped the current league top scorer Ryan Ogam had not been affected by transfer speculation that has linked the youngster with a move to USM of Algeria.
“Ryan Ogam is a prolific and intelligent striker. As Tusker, he remains part of us, and we continue to encourage him to stay focused. When the time comes, we will see how things unfold,” he added.
Ogam was instrumental in the last meeting scoring a brace in Tusker’s 2-1 victory and will be keen to rediscover his firepower as they seek to complete a double over K’Ogalo.
On the other hand, new Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic will be eyeing his second successive win after guiding the champions to a 2-1 win against Mathare United in Dandora last weekend in his first match in charge.
