Tusker down Sofapaka as Leopards maul Muhoroni Youth

Tusker FC maintained their eight years unbeaten record against Sofapaka in the Kenya Premier League with a 3-1 victory at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town.

Fabian Adikinyi netted for Tusker in the 59th minute with Eric Kapaito and David Odoyo striking in the 60th and 72nd minute. Keagan Ndembi scored Sofapaka's consolation goal.

Elsewhere AFC Leopards maul Muhoroni Youth 1-0, Jaffer Owiti scoring the lone goal. Nairobi City Stars also beat Posta Rnagers by the same margin while Shabana gave new coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo a befitting welcome with a resounding 5-2 win over Nzoia Sugar.

In Machakos, Tusker, the host team, who have never lost to Sofapaka since December 2021 with four victories and only one draw to their credit, maintained their good run.

In their recent encounters, Tusker beat Sofapaka 1-0, 2-0, 1-0, and 2-0, with their only credible result being a goalless draw which stood until today's encounter. Since 2016, Tusker have registered six victories against Sofapaka to confirm their supremacy.

The game started on a flying note with Tusker, using the advantage of their fans that they ferried from their Nairobi fan base cheering them on, but the first half ended with a stalemate.

With the victory, Tusker moved to third position from fifth position with 31 points. Gor Mahia lead the log with 40 points from 18 matches. Nairobi City Stars are second with 33 points while Tusker, Bandari, and Posta Ranger are placed in third fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Tusker coach Robert Matano said they started on a low note in the first half before picking up in the second half to score three crucial goals promising to maintain streak against league leaders and defending champions Gor Mahia in the next match.

On the other hand, Sofapaka coach Zedekia ‘Zico’ Otieno said they played  well in the first half, but defensive blunders in the second half cost them the  game.
