The former 10,000m world champion regrets that young athletes are choking themselves early by rushing to the road prematurely.

At 35, Masai continues to demonstrate remarkable longevity in athletics, with her next target being the Barcelona Marathon in March.

“I want to urge my fellow athletes, especially the upcoming ones, to exercise patience when graduating from track to marathon. They should do it when ready and not when chasing something else.”

“Siri ni trust the process. Start slowly and stay consistent with your training,” said the former Olympics bronze medalist.

She recently placed third at the National Police Service Cross Country Championships, clocking 34 minutes 17.6 seconds.

“I am using cross-country races to prepare myself for Barcelona,” said Masai, whose consistent performances over the years underline her enduring competitiveness.

Masai joins Kenyan legends like Eliud Kipchoge (41), Edna Kiplagat (46), and Sharon Cherop (41), all set to compete in major global marathons this year.

Masai’s career highlights include a 10,000m gold at the 2009 World Championships and an Olympic bronze in 2008.

Between 2009 and 2011, she earned three consecutive silver medals at the World Cross Country Championships, cementing her reputation as one of Kenya's finest.

Last year, Masai received the Head of State Commendation (HSC) from President William Ruto during Kenya’s 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations, recognizing her exceptional contributions to athletics.
