Thunder boss Ibs impressed by team's aggression
Nairobi City Thunder head coach Brad Ibs has admitted his unbeaten
side is far from perfect despite their weekend win in their doubleheader
matches played on Friday and Saturday.
The Thunder returned to their home grounds at the Nyayo
Stadium Gymnasium for the first time this season, where they welcomed
Strathmore University`s Blades on Friday, winning 88-48, before administering
an 80-49 blowout win over Stanbic Bank, in the late Saturday evening tip-off
The all-striking City Thunder claimed the top spot in the
Kenya Premier League standings to continue their runs of unbeaten games.
Revealing the need for more tweaks in the side`s offensive
executions, defensive discipline, and even remaining focused during games, he
was impressed by his team`s weekend showcase.
"There are still things to clean up; we want to
continue to grow in our offensive execution, the small disciplined details of
our defense, we want to maintain those things, sometimes when you have a big
lead, the game a little sloppier and it becomes a little more difficult to
maintain focus, but it is an active conversation that we are having with them
to challenge them to stay mentally tough, stay fixated on what our goals are
for the game."
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Coach Ibs was impressed by his
side`s quick start to the weekend games, which he admitted has been a weakness
for them over time because sometimes they would play down to their
competition.
"I think one thing that we struggled with sometimes
last year, even when we played against teams that we felt we were better than,
was sometimes we played down to the level of the competition, and it took us a
little while to get going, and sometimes we would win by a big margin but what
I was impressed with by our group this weekend was they came out swinging right
away and kind of like showed what the better team was."
