‘This is just the start,' Ambani confident after league debutants Mara Sugar registered opening win
Mara Sugar Technical Director, Boniface Ambani, says he
was impressed by his team’s performance over the weekend, when they made their debut
in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League with made a statement with a win.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Ambani said they players
were fearless against the experienced Kakamega Homeboyz last Sunday,
leading to an all-important 3-0 win and bagging the all-important three points.
The Narok-based side is currently
second on the log behind AFC Leopards.
“The players were fearless
and that is the spirit that we always encourage them to have. They faced their opponent
with courage and maintained their tactical discipline and that is how they
managed to get the maximum points,” said Ambani, a former AFC Leopards striker.
Ambani believes the team has what it takes to face the best teams in the premier league, even as
they prepare to tackle Bandari in their next
fixture on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
“We have worked hard to be
here. We have given our best and
we hope to continue with the same fighting spirit until the end of the season. That is our aim,” stated the
Technical Director.
Despite the transfer window still open, the former Kenyan
international says they are through with making signings, and their intention now is to keep sharpening the
current squad to ensure
they are always at their best.
“We are done with the
transfer activities. Our focus is to keep on improving the team with the
players that we have.”
Mara Sugar were promoted to the top flight league from the National
Super League (NSL) alongside Mathare United.
