Embattled
Kenya Rugby Union chairman Sasha Mutai says he is not a lone ranger and any
decisions made by the union are discussed and passed by the union’s board.
He made
the remarks on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday show, in the wake of attempts by the
board to kick him out of office, Mutai laughing off the claims the alleged suspension
by some members, whose aim, he said, is
driven by greed, noting that their attempt is null and void, as it does not
follow the Union’s constitution.
“They
are driven by greed and nothing of the best interest to develop rugby in the
country. Whatever they are doing is unconstitutional and for me I will continue
working for rugby lovers as long as I am the chairman,” said Mutai.
After a great
performance by the Kenya Lionesses who won their second leg of the HSBC
Challenger Series after beating South Africa 17-0 in the final, Mutai exuded
confidence that Shujaa will be able to reach the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Sevens
where they have been pooled alongside Great Britain, Spain and France.
“Our
ladies have made us proud in the last two weeks; we are really happy as a union;
we will continue to support them and I am sure they have a great future, for
the men Hong Kong has always been a good hunting ground for us, I believe in
them and I am sure they will get in to the semi-finals,” added Mutai.
About
Kenya bidding to host one of the legs of HSBC Series, Mutai said they still
have the ambition to bid for one of the legs.
“We have
to be ambitious and believe in our self; we have what it takes to win the bid
to host one of the legs and I believe the dream will come true,” stated the
union chairman.
