'The Lion' Matano wants Sofapaka to roar louder after picking first win

'The Lion' Matano wants Sofapaka to roar louder after picking first win

Sofapaka head coach Robert ‘The Lion’ Matano is hopeful his team will keep the winning momentum after nailing their first win this season, a hard-fought 1-0 win against Shabana FC in the FKF-PL.

The former Tusker and AFC Leopards tactician believes ‘Batoto Ba Mungu’ will collect maximum points from the remaining 28 matches to finish in a respectable position despite a slow start to the current campaign.

"As of now, I can't predict anything because we are only on our sixth match, and this means we have 28 matches ahead of us.

In those 28 matches, we will keep training hard and try to win one match at a time.

I think after match day 28, Sofapaka will be somewhere", Matano said.

Matano has, however, warned his players against complacency and over-excitement and wants them to fight for everything.

"I think the boys will keep climbing up the ladder, but we must be ready to suffer and fight for everything.

“Remember, we had not won, but now the boys will believe that everything is possible after our first three points.

“It's a morale booster for sure because I have a lot of new players in the squad. If only we put in more effort and have that mental strength to help us do well", Matano added.

Sofapaka has lost three matches, drawn two, and won one, sitting in 13th place with five points.

"We should love what we are doing, and we should love our club.

“There is nothing that comes easily, but we must win more matches to build confidence in the team.

“The boys must not look back but focus ahead", Matano told the citizen digital reporter

Next Saturday, they will host Kakamega Homeboyz at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
