National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) president Paul Tergat has reaffirmed the committee's unwavering commitment to ensure athletes preparing for the games are given maximum support.

In an event that marked 100 days to the Paris fiesta Wednesday, Tergat underscored NOC-K's dedication to ensure there are no gaps in preparations.

He also expressed confidence in the Kenyan athletes' abilities to excel in Paris, improving on last edition in Tokyo.

“We have gathered here tonight to speak resoundingly, that irrespective of our inclination, starting tonight until the end of Paris 2024 Games, we choose to play our part and support the Olympic dream of our champions and our nation,” the retired marathoner said.

Tergat also underlined the NOC-K's recognition of the vital role athletes play in upholding Kenya's reputation as a powerhouse in global sports.

“Our sportsmen and women, we salute you every day. That is why we are doing everything we can to make sure we stand with you, we walk with you and ensure that we bring more medals than ever before - and it’s possible,” added Tergat.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge who is gearing up for his fifth appearance at the games urged the athletes to demonstrate their patriotism for Kenya.

“The first thing with Olympics is not to win medals but to participate and represent the country, to be patriotic. We have personal interests and community interests, but we are going to compete by blood, sweat and tears.”

Several Kenyan teams have already qualified for the games including Malkia Strikers, rugby 7s team Shujaa, Alexander Ndolo (Fencer) and athletes.

The Olympic Games will kick off on July 26 and end on August 11.
