Luanda Villa FC head coach, Tom Tera, is optimistic that his team will beat Kericho-based Zoo FC and secure an early slot in the National Super League.
Tera says he would not wish to witness
what he experienced in 2020/21 season where they failed to top the league
during the mini-league ahead of the NSL qualifiers.
"The truth is, we are in a tight
spot with only a two-point difference between Zoo FC and us but we have no
option but to win our Saturday match to avoid uncertainty in the
mini-league," he said.
Tera is also determined not to
let Zoo FC settle for a draw, especially after losing to them in an away match
due to a controversial penalty
“I know Zoo FC will be better off if
they manage a draw against us but I won’t allow that to happen given that they
only beat us away via a controversial penalty and this is our turn to prove our
point on the pitch,” he reckoned.
The Luanda Villa tactician feels that his players would have qualified for NSL earlier if they had
received their winning allowances in time.
“The moment my players begin thinking
of their arrears we draw which has given us a difficult task to play hard until
our final match,” he explained.
He further disclosed that he has
talked to the players, urging them to prioritize the task of securing a spot in
the NSL, then address their plight afterwards.
“I have encouraged the players to do
their best to utilize this platform for their own good given that there are big
teams in the FKF PL whose players are yet to be paid,” he explained.
This Saturday is set to be a defining
moment for Villa as they came close to qualifying for NSL in the 2020/21
season, but due to COVID-19, they couldn't play last season.
They now have a chance to try their
luck, relying on their home ground fan base at Mumboha to outperform their
arch-rivals, Zoo FC.
