Team Kenya travels to Paris Olympics in style with homemade kit
Kenyan athletes will be sporting a travel kit that embodies both
national pride and cultural heritage as they head to the Paris 2024 Olympics,
thanks to a partnership between Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) through its
Tusker brand and Kenyan clothing brand Home 254.
The making of the kit was undertaken as part of Tusker's
sponsorship of Team Kenya for this year's Olympic Games. Home 254, known for
its stylish casual wear, was tasked with designing and producing the kit.
The kit incorporates the Kenyan flag's colours (black, white, red,
and green) and features elements inspired by traditional Maasai Shukas,
reflecting Kenyan cultural heritage.
"This travel kit is unique because it was designed and
produced by Kenyans, for Kenya," said Brian Jura, Founder and CEO of Home
254.
"We're incredibly proud of this responsibility. The design
and fabric selection prioritized both style and comfort for the athletes. We
incorporated patterns reminiscent of the Maasai shuka, along with the Kenyan
national colours, to ensure the athletes felt proud and represented.
Additionally, the fabric is suitable for the expected hot weather in Paris
during the Games."
"This opportunity to produce the Team Kenya kit is a huge
honour for Home 254. This partnership allows us to showcase Kenyan design talent
and quality products to the world. We hope it inspires other Kenyan design
startups to dream big and believe in their capabilities," Jura added.
Mark Ocitti, KBL Managing Director, commented: "We at KBL are
proud of our ongoing support for Team Kenya in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The development of this travel kit exemplifies our commitment to ensuring our
athletes look their best as they represent Kenya on the global stage.”
“Tusker, a proudly Kenyan brand, is also dedicated to supporting
other Kenyan businesses and showcasing their ability to produce top-quality
goods. We entrusted Home 254 with this responsibility, and they have
undeniably proven that Kenya possesses the talent and skill to compete with the
world's biggest brands," He added.
National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) Secretary General
Francis Mutuku expressed his gratitude to KBL for the partnership.
"Tusker has consistently demonstrated their commitment to our
athletes, and sponsoring the design and production of the Team Kenya travel kit
is a shining example. The positive reception from the athletes speaks volumes
about the quality of this kit. We are sincerely thankful to KBL for their
support and for being part of Team Kenya's journey to the Paris Olympic Games,"
Mutuku said.
With the Paris Olympics approaching, Team Kenya athletes continue
to arrive in Miramas, Southern France, where they will camp, train and prepare
for the competitions.
The Kenya Rugby Sevens team was the first to depart, followed by
others like the Relays team, the Malkia Strikers volleyball team, and more
athletic teams scheduled to depart at later dates.
