Team Kenya land in Tunisia ahead of Africa Beach Games
With the team travelling in two batches, the women’s team was the first to depart for the North African country where they arrived on Monday evening with the men’s team expected to jet out on Thursday.
Team Kenya head coach Titus Esekwa is adamant both teams will shine in the week-long tournament with the women’s team also poised to compete at the IHF Beach Handball Tour.
"Our ladies team finished fourth in the last championship and hence qualified for the 2023 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour which is also being held in Tunisia. The men's team will leave on 22nd June 2023 so that we reach Tunisia on 23rd." said Kesekwa.
The men’s handball team is training at Buntwaani Waterpark in Malindi and coach Kesekwa expressed confidence in the team's preparations thanks to support they received from the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K).
Kenya are in Group A alongside formidable opponents Morocco and Zambia with the event set to feature a total of 11 games, with the men’s action kicking off on Saturday.
The opening match will see Kenya take on the 2019 bronze medalists Morocco in a highly anticipated encounter.
The top three teams from each group, along with the best runner-up, will advance to the semi finals scheduled to be held later that day.
