General Service Unit (GSU) head coach Gideon Tarrus has warned his side against resting on their laurels despite their dominant display over Equity and Kenya Army in the inaugural Kenya Cup tournament that was held over the weekend at Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Tarrus is keen to build on their 3-1 win over Equity on Sunday, and he insists that his team has yet to hit the levels he aims for.

The paramilitary team was on course to win in straight sets in the tightly contested tie, cruising in the first two sets 28-26 and 25-23 before the Bankers threatened to spoil their party after grabbing the third set 26-24.

However, GSU got their mojo back in the fourth set, winning 25-22 to end their perfect weekend after trouncing Kenya Army 3-0 on Saturday.

“We played well but have yet to reach my desired level. We are only at around 60 per cent and still have much to work on. All teams are equally good; you must be at the top level to win play-offs. Our main aim is to qualify for the playoffs, then build from there,” noted Tarrus.

The Wafalme Stars head coach knows they have their work cut out to win the cup, and he’s keen on improving his backcourt defense and blocks to stay perfect.

“We still have a problem defending at the back of the court and blocking attacks. We shall be unstoppable if we work on it and improve our attacks.”

GSU currently leads Pool A on Six Points, which also consists of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Administration Police (AP).
