Superb Pipeline spike APR to win CAVB Zone V Club Championships in Kigali
Kenya Pipeline
are the Confederation African Volleyball Zone V Champions after thumping Rwanda
Revenue Authority 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-19) in the club championships staged
Sunday at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
This means the
Oilers win their maiden CAVB Zone V Club championship in a beautiful fashion by
completing a double against the Rwandese after tormenting them earlier on in
the round robbin format with a similar scoreline.
In the third
place play-offs Rwanda Patriotic Army (APR) whitewashed Compatriots Police
3-1(26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21) in a scintillating showdown to finish third.
Hard-hitting left
attacker Pamela Adhiambo and middle blocker Trizah Atuka's excellent displays
led the Paul Gitau's charges to easily cruise the first set 25-20 after a
closely contested battle in the early stages of the set.
Pipeline picked
on from where they left in the first set to continue dominating in the second
set with their attacks and excellent blocks giving them a 24-20 lead at some
point.
However poor
reception threatened their second set triumph allowing the Rwandese into the
game to close the gap to 23-24 forcing Gitau to call for a time out.
Pipeline would
later return guns blazing with hard hitting left attacker Pamela Adhiambo
forcing RRA to produce two excellent blocks before finally giving the battle
away to give Pipeline a 25-23 victory.
The former
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National Women's League champions gave RRA no
chance in the third set as they easily cruised 25-19 to bag the regional title
after missing the league title to KCB in October.
