Strathmore Blades ring war bells ahead of varsity derbies

The students will be concluding their first leg matches this weekend when they play varsity derbies.

They first take on USIU Tigers on Saturday before meeting UON Terror on Sunday at the Strathmore Grounds.

“Those are very tricky sides; we have had a two week break of which we have been planning well for the two games.

“We have the same energy levels, the games are going to be very tactical but from my side I need the two wins to propel me either to the fourth or fifth position which will be a very good target for me in the first leg,” said Ochieng.

Against USIU on Saturday, Ochieng is well conversant with their style of play and optimistic of registering a win.

“Another tricky affair, we know how they play, their pace, how they move the ball and their big men are very aggressive.  I am urging my players to contain them and I am optimistic of a good performance over the weekend,” he added.

On Sunday against Terror, the soft-spoken tactician is aware of the threat ahead of them in the varsity derby.

“They are a food team with a very good fighting spirit, they never lose hope but I am very optimistic that my boys will be up to the task and we will be able to contain them. Their work ethics are very high, they shoot a lot, and their guards are very quick.

Strthmore have so far played nine games, winning four and losing five and have 13 points so far as they conclude the first leg this weekend.
