The university side lost 61–68 to Equity Dumas on Saturday, before suffering a narrow 77–80 defeat to fellow varsity team Africa Nazarene University (ANU Wolfpacks) on Sunday at the Nyayo Gymnasium in the National Men’s Basketball Premier League.
“My boys came in with the wrong attitude. We were trailing throughout, pushing hard, and ended up losing the game at the wire. We had several turnovers and failed to play as a unit, something I need to address before our game against Ulinzi,” said Ochieng.
Despite the setbacks, Ochieng remains optimistic about the team's playoff prospects, targeting a top-eight finish.
“It’s a wake-up call for the team. We’ll keep pushing and give our best. I believe we can still make the playoffs. We’ll be fighting for sixth, seventh, or eighth place since the top five spots are already out of reach,” he added.
Ochieng also cited injuries to key players as a major factor in the team’s recent struggles.
“Right now, seven of my regular players are injured, and it’s really affecting us. One of them is even set to undergo surgery. It’s tough, but we still have a few games to work on. We just need to win the ones we’re supposed to. We’ll do everything we can to secure as many wins as possible and fight for a playoff spot.”
Strathmore have so far played 15 games, winning five and losing ten and sit in the tenth position out of the 12 league teams.
