Kenyan football lovers have taken to social media to express their fury after an undated video emerged online featuring Harambee Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi with unnamed individuals plotting 'a deal', apparently to fix a football match.

It remains unclear who the fixtures in the amateur video are, or when it was filmed and the location. What is clear is that the video was recorded in a car, with the face of the Kenyan goalkeeper clearly visible.

“I repeat again before the boss, this is the first deal, I beg you,” says the man as Matasi nods in agreement.

The man adds, “You know how we have done this, I have never let you down, you have never let me down,” to suggest they have done this kind of business before.

“Me in my business with you, zero failure right?” the man asks the goalkeeper who in turn says, “True!”

“Whatever will be given to me, straight I forward to you. Immediately I forward to you, I will give you a phone call and boss will confirm you have received, then deal is on,” he tells Matasi who continues to agree to his deal.

The conversation continues and the man states what he’d love Matasi to do in the purported fixed match.

“That first half, bro what we want must come, then my deal should not go to anyone,” he concludes.

Matasi has been conceding some 'cheap goals' both in the national team and Kenya Police FC which have recently raised eyebrows with recent being two questionable goals against Cameroon in a 4-1 loss during the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers which dimmed Kenya’s chances of qualifying for the championship.

A cheaply conceded injury time goal against Kakamega Homeboyz and another one during a friendly match against Russia also raised eye-brows.

Matasi has been Harambee Stars first choice keeper for long, more so during the era of former head coach, Turk Engin Firat, but has been overlooked by the new coach Benni McCarthy.
