St. Anthony Kitale train guns on East Africa Games hockey title

St. Anthony Kitale hockey team head coach Kevin Lugalia says they are determined to reclaim the East Africa title they lost in 2018.

The team last won the title in Arusha Tanzania in a round robin format and he believes they have what it takes to replicate the feat in this year’s competition that will be taking place in Mbale Uganda.

“We're ready for the competition; we have prepared well, since April, after the nationals, and from the friendlies we have played, I have seen a lot of improvement in the team,” said Lugalia.

Lugalia emphasises the importance of his team working on their attack saying it is always good to have the tactics of outscoring their opponents.

“I am a believer in attack, it has always worked for us so it is an area we have to keep improving on, and I believe in the coming days we will be ready for it,” added Lugalia.

In the last two years, St. Anthony have lost to Musingu in the national finals and the veteran tactician says Kenya schools, like Musingu, and St. Charles Lwanga, will still be their main rivals in the  regional games.

“Kenyan teams have always been our main rivals because we have faced each other in different competitions but we are not ruling out other teams from Uganda who are really good but we are determined to match them,” stated the head coach.

The teams will leave the country for Mbale on Friday as the games are expected to begin to run from August18 -27.
