SS Assad on the brink of collapsing due to financial crisis
Through a social media post on Friday, the club management claimed that their search for a sponsor had hit the road and that they could no longer sustain the players and the technical bench.
“Since the start of this season, the current board of directors and officials have explored multiple avenues to secure sponsorship, but unfortunately, these efforts have been unsuccessful,” read part of the post.
The club also noted that they had tried all means to make sure they can remain afloat through contributions but it is no longer sustainable.
“The team has been sustained through personal contributions from the board, as well as support from some loyal fans and local leaders, amounting to nearly 3 million. This has covered 15 matches so far.”
However, they urged potential sponsors, supporters or people of goodwill to come on board and rescue the club from folding.
The club requires approximately six million shillings to sustain them for the remaining 22 matches.
The Mombasa-based club is expected to issue a walkover against MOFA on Saturday and if they do, they will be deducted three points.
SS Assad is the latest club to be hit by financial constraints after Vihiga United, formerly known as Mulembe United.
They are currently fighting relegation and have just amassed 12 points from 15 matches.
