Sports PS Tum calls for concerted effort, partnerships to help fight doping
The PS made the remarks Saturday in Mombasa at the PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort during a two-day workshop for the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya[SJAK], organised by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya[ADAK].
"Let us involve ourselves in this communication[fight against doping]," he said, challenging journalists to endeavor to stick to ethics; accurate, and factual reporting more so on matters doping that has tarnished Kenya's image.
To win the war, he called for strategic partnerships and collaboration between the ministries of Sports, health and the media.
"A sporting nation is a cohesive nation, sports contribute to the economic growth of the country," he said, hailing the recently held WRC Safari Rally held in Naivasha that he says had a profound impact on the economy.
Engineer Tum also said that the government is working on a reward scheme policy for Kenyan athletes who bring honour and glory to the country.
"We are working on the policy of reward so that everyone who wins something can be awarded. So that they feel motivated to continue selling the image of this country," he said.
The government recently rewarded double world champion- 5,000m and 1,500m, Faith Kipyegon with KSh5 million besides gifting her with a house valued at KSh6 million while 100m sensation Ferdinand Omanyala took home KSh2 million.
