Speed demon Omela targets 100 points as Menengai Oilers eye Kenya Cup glory

Menengai Oilers' fleet-footed winger, Timothy Omela Ejakait, has been on a scoring spree since his return from injury, racking up an impressive 56 points this season.

The Kenya Simbas star, who had been sidelined for nearly a year, has made a sensational comeback.

Omela has scored three tries, one penalty, and 19 conversions, solidifying his position as the club's top point scorer and a crucial part of their title push.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Omela shared his ambitious target for the season.

"I want to score 100 points for the club this season. I’ve been working hard, and I’m grateful to be back on the field, helping the team win. I believe it’s achievable, especially with the great support from my teammates and coaches," Omela said.

A Kakamega School alumnus, Omela has played a key role in the Oilers’ unbeaten start to the 2024/25 Kenya Cup season.

His precision under pressure and ability to deliver in crucial moments have kept the team on track, as they sit third in the standings and aim to claim their first-ever Kenya Cup title.

Elkeans Musonye, closely following Omela, has accumulated 45 points, scoring nine tries to lead the club’s try-scoring chart. Beldad Ogeta and Clinton Odhiambo follow with 25 and 24 points, respectively.

The Oilers now turn their attention to a highly anticipated round-six clash against Kenya Harlequin, with both teams maintaining flawless records. The match is expected to be a thrilling encounter as the battle for supremacy intensifies.

Meanwhile, Kabras RFC’s Griffin Chao leads the league’s scoring chart with 65 points, having crossed the try line an impressive 13 times.
