Simiyu keen on Nzoia Sugar’s instant FKFPL comeback
The sugar millers dropped to the second tier league after experiencing a difficult spell in the FKF Premier League last season with financial constraints further complicating their status in the top flight league.
Speaking to Citizen Digital after grabbing a hat-trick in Nzoia's 4-0 victory over visitors MCF at Sudi Stadium on Wednesday, the club's top scorer revealed that the team's main goal is to make an instant comeback to the FKF-PL.
Simiyu is third in the NSL top-scorers’ chart after notching nine goals so far, only two shy of joint top scorers Donald Ange of Kibera Black Stars and Veron Ombima of Darajani Gogo who lead with 11 goals each.
“My aim is to help the team regain promotion to the Kenyan Premier League. If I also emerge as the NSL's top scorer, I will be grateful to God,” Simiyu said.
His heroics has seen Nzoia move up to ninth place on 25 points after 17 rounds.
Simiyu attributed Nzoia's massive win against MCF to teamwork among the club's players.
The victory saw Nzoia Sugar FC extend their winning streak this year, having won four matches and one draw out of their last NSL outings.
“The win came as a result of hard work that everyone is putting in at the club. We entered the pitch knowing that we're playing at home and a win is all we wanted. It was difficult for everyone when we were relegated, we're now putting in effort to earn our promotion back to the premier league,” he added.
