Simbas squad for 2025 Rugby Africa Cup unveiled

Team
manager of the Kenya Simbas Jimmy Munene, alongside the Kenya Rugby Union board
unveiled the squad for the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup in Uganda.
The 28-man
squad includes debutants like Vincent Mwikali, Samuel Ovwamu of Menengai
Oilers, David Bunduki of Griffons and Patrick Sabatia.
Going into
the competition the team manager has slated Uganda as the favorites and is
confident that Kenya will deliver an upset.
The team
named includes:
Forwards: Ephraim
Oduor, Edward Mwaura, Wilhite Mususi, Vincent Mwikali.
Hookers: Teddy
Akala, Eugene Sifuna
Locks: Ibrahim
Ayoo, Thomas Okeyo, Andycole Omolo, Emmanuel Slungi
Backrows: George
Nyambua, Patrick Sabatia, David Bunduki, Obat Kuke, Bethuel Anami, Elkeans
Musonye.
Scrum
Halves: Samuel Asati, Brian Tanga.
Fly Halves:
Barry Young, Brian Wahinya
Wingers: Griffin
Chao, Timothy Omela
Centers: Walter
Okoth, Samuel Ovwamu, Bryceson Adaka, John Okoth
Full backs:
John Kubu, Derick Ashiundu.
The team
has been in camp in South Africa for a month beefing up strategies in
preparation for the competition. Samuel Asati has said that the trip has helped
them get better exposure, experience and mentally ready for the oncoming
tournament.
"I
believe the experience was necessary and helped the team bond and get mentally
in the zone for the competition," stated Asati.
The team
manager said that he believes the team has prepared adequately to face a strong
Uganda and that the camp in South Africa was a good step.
"These
are young men and it is important that they are mentally ready and they have to
believe that they are not inferior to Uganda. During our trip there we visited
places like Robben Island that represents the struggle the young men of that
time went through during apartheid but remained mentally strong and they
achieved great things." Stated Munene.
Our last
stint with Uganda was in the Elgon Cup and it ended in a 48-30 aggeregate win
for Kenya. (27-25 and 21-5).
