Bandari’s recent woes continued on Saturday after falling 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz at Mbaraki Stadium, Mombasa.
The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute, when Moses Shuma powered in a thunderous shot from 16 yards out, beating Bandari goalkeeper Bryne Omondi. The goal, set up by a clever cross from John Omondi, proved enough to seal all three points for the visitors.
With the win, Kakamega Homeboyz climbed to 5th place in the league standings on 41 points, while Bandari remain 9th with 36 points, struggling to shake off a string of poor results.
Bandari looked off the pace for most of the match, failing to create meaningful opportunities in the first half. Strikers Alfred Tanui and Izzadin Juma were neutralized by a disciplined Homeboyz backline.
The visitors, too, were wasteful up front, with Shuma and Pius Mwangi spurning early chances as the teams went into halftime locked at 0-0.
Desperate for a breakthrough, Bandari brought on top scorer Beja Nyamawi and Hamisi Mwaphalu early in the second half.
Nyamawi almost made an instant impact, forcing a fingertip save that deflected his shot over the bar just two minutes after coming on.
But it was Homeboyz who ultimately made their chances count. Shuma’s goal gave them the lead, and their defense held firm, frustrating late attempts from Nyamawi and veteran forward John Makwata.
The loss adds pressure on Bandari head coach Ken Odhiambo, who didn’t mince words post-match.
“This is probably our worst performance. We missed clear chances—open nets,” Odhiambo said. “What more can I do? Teach players how to score? Something needs to change.”
On the other side, Homeboyz coach Francis Baraza praised his team’s tactical discipline.
“We knew it would be tight, given how close we are in the standings,” Baraza said. “We adjusted, stayed patient, and forced them into mistakes. The boys earned this win.”
A late equaliser deined the defending champions a good chance to top the log after Police went down 1-0 to Ulinzi Stars yesterday.
