Kenya’s rugby maestros Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi have been named as co-captains in the Shogun Rugby team that will be making their bow in this year’s Kampala 7s.
The duo who previously
co-captained Kenya’s rugby sevens team Shujaa will be looking to kick start
their sevens season early as they turn out for the renowned invitational team
that has previously been a regular in Kenya’s Safari 7s.
The team, announced
yesterday largely consists of Kenyans with former Shujaa winger Brian Mutugi,
Simba’s Joel Inzuga, Austine Sikutwa, Elvis Otete, Strathmore Leo’s outside
center Elton Amalemba, Ronnie Omondi and Samuel Mwaura.
Shogun, formerly known
as Samurai rugby, are in group A alongside Black Pirates, Rams and Warriors.
Group B consists of
Heathens, KOBS, Emerging Cranes and South Africa’s All Stars with Kenya’s
Nondescripts and Strathmore Leos in Group C alongside Buffaloes and Mongers.
Shogun finished second in
last year’s Safari 7s after falling to Kenya’s Shujaa and will be hoping to go
one step better and claim victory in Kampala 7s in their debut year.
The games will be played on June 31 and 1 at the Kings Park Arena.
