Kenya rugby 7s national team, popularly known as Shujaa, has departed for their next assignments in the Hong Kong and Singapore 7s.

The team left the country on Sunday night and is set to play in Hong Kong 7s slated for March 28th -30th, 2025, with Singapore coming a week later on April 5th-6th 2025, as they look to turn around their fortunes in the HSBC SVNS Series.

Head coach Kevin Wambua named a strong squad on Thursday, with Festus Shiasi earning a call-up in place of teenager Jackson Siketi, who has been dropped.

Playmaker Jone Kubu, who made his debut in the previous outing, retains his place for the second consecutive tournament.

Despite their struggles in Vancouver, Shujaa has stuck with their experienced core. Patrick Odongo, who missed the final two days of the Vancouver 7s due to injury, has been included in the travelling squad.

He joins fellow regulars Kevin Wekesa, Vincent Onyala, Denis Abukuse, Brian Tanga, Tony Omondi, and Nygel Amaitsa. The team will continue to be led by co-captains Samuel Asati and George Ooro.

Tough Pool C Draw

Shujaa faces a challenging Pool C in Hong Kong, where they will battle against Spain, Great Britain, and France.

Shujaa heads into these crucial tournaments in good shape, having received a financial boost from Safaricom and an additional Ksh 2.6 million sponsorship from Crown Paints.

The team will be hoping to bounce back and improve their standing in the HSBC SVNS Series, with their sights set on progressing past the group stage in both Hong Kong and Singapore.
