Shujaa land in Dubai ahead of World Series opener
Shujaa will be making their return to the World Series after being relegated a year ago, and Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Sasha Mutai said they are targeting a top-eight finish in their return.
“The team has safely landed in Dubai for the series kickoff. They are in high spirits ahead of their return; they feel motivated and ready to deliver good results with the target of finishing in the top eight,” said Mutai.
Kenya is pooled alongside France, Australia, and South Africa, a pool Mutai believes will be a good taste for the team on their return.
“It very tough pool in a very tough season where teams have been reduced to 12 that means we are playing against the best 11 in the world and we are confident the players will make Kenyans and all the Shujaa fans proud,” added Mutai.
The team received a major boost on Monday after Safaricom announced a sponsorship deal worth more than KSh. 100 million, which also covers ladies side Lionesses.
“It is a big morale booster to the players technical bench and the union now has no reason as to why they cannot deliver. We are very happy with the support we have so far received from the sponsors.”
