Ooro, who joined Strathmore in 2021 and earned his maiden Shujaa call-up under then head coach Damian McGrath ahead of the HSBC World Sevens Series in Hong Kong, has quickly risen through the ranks.
He was named Shujaa captain by head coach Kevin Wambua after the team’s return to the World Series after a successful season in the Challenger Series in 2024.
While speaking to Citizen Digital, Ooro expressed excitement about the new chapter in his rugby journey.
“It’s a good move for me. I am excited and eager to prove myself. KCB is a big side, and I believe my game will take the next step,” said Ooro.
He acknowledged the professional setup at KCB as one of the key factors behind his decision to switch clubs.
“As much as Strathmore is a rugby powerhouse, KCB is a step higher. The training and competition are more intense. I am up to the challenge and ready to prove myself once again,” he added.
Ooro is set to make his debut for the bankers in the opening leg of the National 7s Circuit at the Driftwood Sevens, Mombasa this weekend.
The Shujaa forward admitted that facing his former teammates, should the two sides meet, would be emotional.
“It will be strange to play against my brothers if we meet in the knockout stages. I left without achieving most of the goals we had set together, and I think that’s part of the game. At the end of the day, it’s a win for rugby.”
Ooro will now link up with fellow Shujaa stars Samuel Asati, Festus Shiasi, Floyd Wabwire, and Vincent Onyala as KCB chase a record fifth National Sevens Circuit title.
Also joining KCB in the latest transfer window are Steven “Zola” Osumba and John Aswani both joining from Strathmore Leos.
The National Sevens Circuit kicks off this weekend in Mombasa, where all eyes will be on KCB as they seek to clinch the driftwood title that they last won six years ago.
