Shimanyula slams FKF boss Mwendwa for ‘failing football’
Kakamega Homeboyz Chairman Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula
says Nick Mwendwa failed the country’s football and its stakeholders and
regretted why he was allowed to run the Kenyan game for so long.
Mwendwa was arrested on Friday last week, days after
Sports Minister Amina Mohamed created a Caretaker Committee to run the Football
Kenya Federation (FKF).
The committee’s reign is expected to last six months
after which elections to vote in a new FKF administration will be conducted and
Shimanyula believes that leadership change is much needed.
“According to me I think elections will help us get better
leaders who understand what football is all about in this country.
“I want to congratulate the formation of a caretaker
committee after disbanding FKF because Mwendwa has let us down. Amina has made
brave and commendable decision,” Shimanyula said.
Shimanyula has also added that under the Mwendwa
regime, everything has been going wrong citing that even the referees have been
suffering without saying a word.
“I saw this very long time ago in 2017 and I have been
discussing it with my counterparts from other teams but unfortunately they seemed
not to understand me.
“Some of them have been siding with Mwendwa and now
you can see how thick things are,” Shimanyula said, adding that, “even the
referees have been silently suffering for going more than six months without
their allowances and they fear disclosing the issue for a possibility of losing
their jobs.”
The Homeboyz boss is the latest chairman to castigate
Mwendwa over his leadership, joining Gor Mahia FC’s Ambrose Rachier and AFC
Leopards’ Dan Shikanda.
