Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula believes his side is ripe to challenge for the FKF Premier League title this season.

Despite a sluggish start to the current campaign, the Kakamega based team have dusted themselves off and are currently on a roll with their 2-0 win last Saturday stretching their winning streak to nine matches.

Their last defeat stretches back to November 27 last year when they fell 2-0 to Gor Mahia but their return meeting with the champions ended in a barren draw on January 26.

They are currently eighth in the league standings on 26 points, 11 behind table toppers Kenya Police FC after 19 matches.

Shimanyula says the signing of former Police FC goalkeeper Patrick Matasi on a two-year contract will further fuel their ambitions to finally win the title.

“We have signed Matasi because of the vast experience he carries. He is the man that will be standing in between the sticks for Homeboyz and I know his availability gives us the belief that we are well capable of winning the KPL title this season,” said Shimanyula.

Matasi on Monday put pen to paper a two-year contract which will tie him till February 2027 after leaving league leaders Kenya Police where his contract expired.

Matasi signing was made to happen after Homeboyz first choice goalie Cleophas Ssentubba from Uganda left the club upon the expiry of his contract.

"He will be with us for at least two years after signing a contract on Monday.

He replaces the Ugandan Cleophas Ssentubba who left thanks to his contract that expired last month", held Shimanyula.

Matasi has featured for AFC Leopards, Tusker, Kenya Police as well as St George's Ethiopia with his peak seeing him elevated to the National team Harambee Stars number one choice shot-stopper.

He was however dropped from the then Engin Firat-led team after faltering against Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last year.
