Shabana FC chairman Jared Niverton has backed the team to stage a better show this term as they aim to shrug off the first and second seasons struggles’ that usually affect promoted teams.

Shabana’s life in the first season after securing promotion to FKF-Premier League in 2022 was no different as they struggled to keep up with tough competition in the top-tier league despite an exhilarating season in the National Super League in 2022-2023 season.

They however survived in the relegation battle finishing 14th, one place above the danger zone and Niverton says they are keen to join the big boys the coming season that begins on Saturday.

"We came with high spirits and high expectations last season. It was our first time back, and things didn’t work out as we hoped.

"But now, after a full season in the league, we've learned a lot and are better prepared for the challenges ahead.”

"I want to promise you that Shabana will deliver. This will help us grow in the 2024 season," he added.

With the threat of relegation nigh, the glamor boys had to win their last three fixtures against giants AFC Leopards and Bidco United to maintain their status, a predicament Niverton hopes will not befall his side this season.

Shabana open the new campaign against Bidco United at Thika Municipal Stadium on Saturday.

"I want to promise you that Shabana will deliver. This will help us grow in the 2024 season.”

Shabana played their home matches at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay County last season much to their detriment as majority of their fans failed to cover the long distance to the match venue.

However, with renovations at their homeground Gusii near complete, Niverton believes that returning to their natural habitat could be a game-changer.

"By the time we were finishing the NSL season, we attracted more than 25,000 fans to Gusii Stadium.

"Last season, we never played any home matches; all our games were away. So looking forward to Gusii Stadium is going to be a boost for us."

The long-serving chairman also revealed plans to establish a Shabana Academy, which will be a crucial step in developing young talent and ensuring the club's long-term competitiveness.

"We are looking forward to starting a Shabana Academy after we put the house in order and secure additional revenue sources. Our aim is to operate like a corporate entity," he noted.

Meanwhile, Shabana Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama has assured fans that the team is on the rise and is aiming to compete in continental competitions.

"Shabana FC is on the rise and will soon be competing in continental competitions.

"We have come several miles to be in this position. Our vision is to aim higher, and soon Shabana will represent Kenya at the continental level. I know we have prepared well," he reckoned.
