Selebwa calls on fans to help address Luanda Villa’s financial struggles
Luanda Villa FC head coach Gilbert Selebwa has called on fans to support the National Super League team through a severe financial crisis threatening the club's future.
Selebwa, who brought in 18 new players this season to rebuild the squad from scratch, says the team is now competing well, aiming for a top-tier league slot next season. However, players are struggling due to financial constraints.
“Players cannot survive on applause alone. They still haven’t received their salaries, so we need fans to rally together to provide allowances for them,” Selebwa explained.
After a strong 7-1 win over Muhoroni Youth FC last Sunday, Selebwa emphasized that the team has found a winning rhythm.
“The team has gelled well, and we’ve achieved the combination we need to win. But we urgently need more support to keep our players housed and motivated,” he added.
This plea follows recent rumours that players were evicted from their club housing in Ebusikhale due to unpaid bills and were forced to stay with friends. Club chairman Moses Abwenje has denied these claims, assuring fans the players have not been evicted.
Selebwa remains optimistic about the team’s potential, stressing that addressing players’ welfare is essential to sustaining their performance. He urged fans to take a proactive role in securing a brighter future for Luanda Villa FC.
Currently, Luanda Villa sits fourth on the NSL table with 12 points after eight games. They face MCF in Machakos this weekend, with MCF ranked 17th with seven points after seven matches.
